Annual Meeting, August 8, 2001First a short business meeting took place. President Wini Smart welcomed the full house and pointed out that the Historical Society had met all its 2000 promises -- installing a Kiddy Korner and a Multimedia Video Display in the Museum, as well as printing three new publications.Then the 2000 minutes were read by Secretary Judy Whitney, followed by the Treasurer's report from Bruce Komusin. Next came the matter of election of officers and trustees. All four officers were up for election this year. Owen Roberts of the Nominating Committee read a list of proposed candidates. No additional names were nominated from the floor. The proposed officers and new trustees were all voted in without opposition. This brings the board to 12 trustees to oversee the new historical museum that opened Aug 6th 2000 in the Longfellow Schoolhouse, Great Cranberry Island.
Kate McKelvin played Carrie, with Chris White as her husband, Meltiah Richardson. Ruth Westphal played Leah Stanley, wife of Carrie's brother Lew Stanley. Eva Galyean played Nellie Richardson, wife of Carrie's son, Charles "Peter" Richardson. Brittony McKelvin played Rebecca, a young island girl, Jim Gertmenian & Owen Roberts played island men, and Charlene Allen & Polly Bunker played island women. Joan Shorey was the narrator. The play was directed by Emily Newell.
