Islesford Historical Society 2012
Islesford Historical Society, Inc.
Dear Members and Friends,
The annual meeting of our society will be held at the Islesford Neighborhood House at 7:30PM on Wednesday, July l1th. I hope to see all of you there!
Bob Pyle, who recently retired as Librarian at Northeast Harbor, has agreed to come out and give us a talk about Prof. William Otis Sawtelle and the development of The Islesford Collection Museum. Bob's talk will follow a short business meeting.
As many of you know, we have long been puzzled about Marguerite LeCroix, the wife of our first permanent settler John Standley. As it happens, Rebecca Burnham, of the Tremont Historical Society, has given us the results of substantial research which identifies Marguerite as among the Acadians expelled from Nova Scotia by the British. She is said to have died in the portion of Tremont which is now Southwest Harbor and then been buried on Little Cranberry with her husband. We might want to consider placing a stone for her beside that of her husband near Maypole Point.
If you have not paid your 2012 membership dues, please send them with the enclosed form, or pay them at the meeting. They remain $8 per individual or $10 per family annually.
