The Wadsworth House is at the end of a tree-lined dirt road, a 10-minute walk from the town dock if you take the shore path, or 20 minutes by the main road.
The driveway ends at the lower lawn, where you enter the house by climbing large rock steps built into the ledge. This brings you to an upper lawn and the main door of the house. The main door opens into a massively long living room/music room (with piano) that ends with large windows that look out over the ocean to the mountains of Acadia National Park.
The outdoor sitting porch beyond the living room is a favorite place on warm nights.
To the right of the living room is the kitchen. It has been recently updated and has a new refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. Yet, it retains its wonderful old fashioned cutting block counter for food chopping and preparation.
The side kitchen door opens onto an outdoor eating porch, again with a sea, mountain, and forest view.
A medium-sized bedroom by the forest has a Queen bed, a dresser, a built-in closet, and a mirror.
On the left side of the large living room, a hallway leads to a Master Bedroom with a King sized bed, dresser, closet, and vanity table with mirror. It has a great view of Mt. Desert Island and the ocean. Across from this room is the bathroom. It has recently been renovated and has its own extra heater. At the end of the hall are two small bedrooms, also with great views. One room has two built-in bunk beds for children; the other has a twin bed.
On the basement level, entered both by interior stairs and an exterior door to the lower lawn, is an extra bedroom, and a little half-bath under the staircase.
Our rocky Maine beach is a two-minute walk through the forest. We also have an above-ground swimming pool on the lower lawn. It's not huge, but it's great for cooling off at the height of the day.
No pets or smoking are allowed. The house sleeps 2 couples and 3 children, maximum. There is a washer/dryer for your convenience, and the house comes with a tennis membership, the use of bikes, and a stationwagon.
